CHÂTEAU DOYAC

BORDEAUX, FRANCE

This is where family, tradition and thoughtful farming come together in the heart of Bordeaux.

Château Doyac a distinguished estate nestled in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Under the passionate stewardship of Max and Astrid de Pourtalès since 1998, Château Doyac has flourished, embracing organic practices in 2015 and achieving Demeter-certified biodynamic status by 2019. This commitment ensures that each bottle reflects the purity and vitality of their unique terroir.

Château Doyac's 30-hectare vineyard is situated on the clay-limestone slopes of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, planted predominantly with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with recent plantings of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. The estate's transition to biodynamics in 2016 reflects a holistic approach to viticulture, emphasizing soil vitality and ecological balance. Practices include the use of herbal teas and plant decoctions to minimize copper and sulfur usage, as well as biodynamic preparations like horn manure (500) to revitalize the soil. The lunar and solar rhythms are also considered to harmonize agricultural activities with natural cosmic cycles. Furthermore, Château Doyac integrates animals into its biodynamic farming practices to maintain and enhance vineyard health. Notably, the estate has Kune-Kune pigs—Prêle, Ortie, Ginger, and Tirelire—to naturally manage soil maintenance, in addition to horses that contribute to the holistic ecosystem of the vineyard.
