CHÂTEAU PENIN

BORDEAUX, FRANCE

Nestled between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, the Entre Deux Mers region is a true haven for wine lovers. Its name, meaning “between two seas,” reflects the unique position of this land where rolling hills and sun-drenched terraces create the perfect environment for vines to thrive. For generations, the Carteyron family has nurtured this land with passion and expertise. Founded in 1855 by Louis and Jacques Carteyron, the estate initially focused on fruit growing, but in 1964, Hubert Carteyron began bottling wines under the Château Penin name, marking a new chapter. His son, Patrick, now heads the winery with his sons Antoine and Etienne by his side.

In 1982, Patrick took the reins, shifting the estate’s focus entirely to viticulture. With years of experience as an oenologist, he embraced a philosophy of quality over quantity. This dedication to quality is reflected in the diversity of the wines produced here. By carefully selecting grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Franc of massale selection, and Sauvignon Blanc, and farming each plot according to its unique terroir, Château Penin crafts wines that showcase the distinct characteristics of the land.

The magic of Château Penin is not only in the wine, it’s in the land, the climate, and the generations of care that have gone into wine. The combination of the oceanic influence from the Gulf Stream and the protective barrier of the Landes forest creates the ideal conditions for grapes to ripen to perfection. Healthy soils and deep-rooted vines work in harmony here, allowing the terroir to reveal its full potential in every bottle. Nowadays, brothers Antoine and Etienne of the sixth generation can be found leading the vines and winery to its next chapter. As stewards of the environment, the family is committed to organic farming, ensuring respect for soil health, water, and biodiversity that make this land so special and thrive.
