KRISTINUS
BALATON, HUNGARY
After meeting with Kristinus at the prestigious VieVinum in Austria, I felt compelled to add another exquisite Hungarian producer to the portfolio! The winery’s philosophy is built upon cultivating healthy grapes in a biodynamic and sustainable way, from which they craft unique, individual, terroir-driven wines from South Balaton. They hold their vineyards in high regard, making sure to give back as much as they take from them. Sustainability and organic and biodynamic farming are the basis and backbone of everything the estate does. Their core belief that the best grapes can only come from healthy, living, rich soils are why the winery has attained its Demeter certification in recent years. As allies to nature, they aim to leave the smallest possible ecological footprint. So when it comes to sustainability, they think of it all and go beyond the vineyard and cellar: from bottle weight to renewable energy, disposal of single-use plastics, and more. On their estate, you can find various winged and four-legged animals roaming around. Not only do they make each day a bit better by being so cute, but they are also the link to making necessary preparations for the vineyards that ultimately protect the plants throughout the year.
