TENUTA I FAURI

ABRUZZO, ITALY

Tenuta i Fauri stands in Abruzzo’s Chieti province, on hills where the Maiella meet the sea—an evocative terroir that combines mountain strength with maritime freshness. The name “Fauri” comes from nearby ruins of an early Christian monastery, once inhabited by monks known as the “fauri,” and the family even uses an ancient stone carving (two lions with a ram) from the property as its logo.

This is a true family estate: father Domenico Di Camillo passed down his passion to his children, Luigi and Valentina, who returned after their oenology studies to drive the winery forward—Luigi handling wine production with “seriousness,” while Valentina brings communication and creativity to the brand.

The estate spans around 35 hectares distributed across six municipalities—Chieti, Francavilla al Mare, Miglianico, Ari, Bucchianico, and Villamagna—which the family gradually reacquired over generations. In 2021, Tenuta i Fauri achieved organic certification, marking a milestone in their long journey toward ecological respect and richer, more expressive grapes.

The family's cellar in Ari remains authentic and hands-on: preserved cement tanks inherited from grandfather Luigi sit alongside modern stainless-steel fermenters and a few barrels, balancing tradition and innovation. Known for freeing Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from the overuse of oak, the winery emphasizes varietal honesty. The resulting wines are fresh, expressive, food-friendly, and convey the character of the land and vintage rather than being masked by wood.
